The Barracks Arts Centre

The Barracks is an iconic, historic building in Tasmania's Derwent Valley. Once part of the Willow Court Asylum, the Barracks is now being transformed into a new regional Arts Centre comprising a public gallery, studios, retail spaces, community workshop spaces and arts organisation offices.

Derwent Valley Arts has already, through volunteer effort and with support from Salamanca Arts Centre and Derwent Valley Council, established The Barracks Art Gallery (TBAG) in a renovated portion of the buildings and organised an initial, successful program of exhibitions.

Our program includes exhibitions by artists across a wide range of media, from traditional painting and print work through to video pieces, performance installations and hosting the Ten Days on the Island Intimate Epics program. Exhibiting artists include those from the Derwent Valley, Tasmania, and interstate, including Oron Catts, Svenja Kratz and Brigita Ozolins.

The Barracks Arts Centre is a creative hub for the Derwent Valley community, bringing outstanding artwork into our beautiful region for all to enjoy.

TBAG is open three weekends per month, and entry is always free. Check the DVA social media for exhibition details.

If you would like to exhibit at TBAG, please get in touch via our EOI form.
